Timing problem

Hello everyone,

I just purchased another turbo 2. It has a remanufactured engine from Atkins Rotary...brand new, never started. The engine is also equipped with gilmer drive pulleys (installed by Atkins).

I just finished putting it back together, and as I was getting ready to stab the cas and line up the timing marks...I found that there were no timing marks on my main pulley!!!!

I spoke with Dan Atkins today in regards to the lack of any timing marks on my main pulley, and he told me that I have to talk to their supercharger guy on Friday.

Has anyone run into anything like this before?

Some of my friends have told me to get a hold of a stock pulley, swap it, mark the timing marks, and then transfer them to the aftermarket pully. But I have also been told that I can't do that because each pulley has been designed to the that specific engine.

You can use a stock pulley to reference the timing marks. What you can't do is start swapping stock pulleys between stock hubs. They are matched sets. What you need to find is either a known matched set of stock pulley/hub or an aftermarket pulley like one from RB that has known good marks.

After you locate a known good pulley you will use the keyway to reference your pulley with the other pulley. That is the critical measurement.

If you just unbolt the Gilmer pulley from the hub that's on the car (leaving that hub in the car) and try to align tha pulley with another hub it's possible the marks you'll make won't be right. The hub needs to come out of the car which means you need to follow the whole procedure for making sure the thrust bearings stack doesn't fall off the spacer.

I'm looking for a Gilmer drive setup. I'll trade you a set of dual sheeve RB pulleys plus some cash if you want something different.
