tII motor in AE86/miata pros and cons
 

ive been wondering about an AE86 with a tII which ive seen for sale
and it just seemed like a cool platform to track with a rotary.
and the same with a miata. i love the rx7 platform and have owned 2 FCs already
but i want to explore with the rotary :D

so my question i guess is, for those who have experience with these
what are the pros and cons of the two?

please no crapping on my thread. just need some experienced advice:icon_tup:

For AE86

Cons: - fuel consumption, weight distribution (minor change, could be a pro depending on how you like your car to handle), ae86 chassis has minimal sound proofing which, like any poor self respecting corolla owner, you'd likely remove anyway, RUST!!! you may not see it at first, but it's there and it's bad and it likes to find critical areas

Pros: -Everything else


Alot of ae86 guys will tell you that the chassis can "only handly 200 hp". This is bullshit. Like any car, if you are substantially upgrading the power you will likely be upgrading everything else, including bracing. The weak point would be the diff, but swapping in an old supra diff is easy cakes. I know a few guys who've ran modded SR20's in the ae86 chassis with great results.

As a former ae86 owner I can tell you that the chassis is a superb platform. It may not be the best performing platform around, but you'll be hard pressed to find one more fun. Keep in mind though that this is a budget 20+ year old chassis that will always require ample funds to keep running. Parts are surprisingly NOT cheap for the ae86, but they are really easy cars to work on.

Con - motor swap puts you into a higher bracket for racing B mod for autocross with NA, could be higher for tII motor.

S5 TII into NA miata:

Pros: EVERYTHING about it, no more B6/BP motor, its rotary!, the total amazingness of it.

Cons: cost/ time of building everything, unless u buy a kit( which all suck btw)
