ticking noise at idle
At idle, my car ticks and dont know where it is coming from. Its really hard to pin point where it is coming from. I already tried this post already : https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showthr...alve+and+noise
This post says to adjust the Turbo actuator arm making it longer so the valve will close. I did that, but still no luck. If anybody has the solutions help a brother out.:icon_tup: |
I'm guessing exhaust leak. My car makes the same sound, lol.

Heres more information. Only at idle it starts ticking, but when accelerating it goes away. What i have is a hks downpipe and from there on its all stock. Hopefully it is a exhaust leak
|
I find it hard to believe that exhaust could cause a "ticking" sound. When you rev the engine, does it speed up? At what engine speed does the sound cease?
|
Well, I know for a fact that I have an exhaust leak causing the "ticking" sound. If you take it say about 4-5k rpm, does it make a whistling sound?
|
The ticking doesnt get fast but once i release the throttle, it seems it gets a lil faster then becomes to a normal ticking speed i been hearing. Im pretty sure its not my injectors. It would be loud, wouldnt it?
|
That's curious. I'm inclined to think injectors.

Get on a highway with barriers on both sides when there are a few cars out, and roll the windows down. Get right up next to the right side barrier so that your car echoes off the passenger side. Go about 40mph so that there is almost no tire noise and get very lightly on the throttle. You want to be on the throttle but not really boosting. Your going to listen for the sound of rushing air echoing off the barrier. It will sound much like the rush of air through your filters when your boosting. That is an exhaust leak. Usually pre-turbo.
Mine does that all the time and it sounds just like good old Ford lifter tap at idle. |
Stuck valve lifters?
|
mine just started doing the same thing. any advice?

im going to do that tomorrow. Hopefully it is a exhaust leak come fron the pre-turbo. Another thing i found was that i searched and read another solution that said it could be the brake booster hose thats hitting something that will make that ticking sound. The thing is i dont know where the hose is at. And i doubt its that because the ticking noise is coming from the passenger side. Maybe it is the pre-trubo. ill take your word on it rotors r cool. Or is it normal to have that ticking noise when you have a 75mm downpipe connected to a cat ,then to a stock exhaust?:Wconfused

I would do a exhaust leak tester regardless just to make sure.
