Temporary fix for oiil smoke?

I have a 1990 13B which, if run hard then let off the throttle and then accelerate again will blow a big puff of blue smoke. This indicates bad side oil seals on the rotors, or so I understand. I have been told there's a temporary fix for this; if so can someone enlighten me?

If it helps, the car that the engine came out of was sitting for an unknown time, at least a couple of years and maybe as long as 4 or 5 years. I dumped ATF in the motor and spun it over before cranking. I also am running 60:1 premix (cheap stuff) until I am assured there's no MOP issues. The engine now has maybe 3 hours of run time on it since its reawakening. It fired up very quickly, none of the 'drag it behind something else' starting issues. I expected smoke at the outset but it hasn't gone away.

Keep running it for a while.

I put ATF in one of my motors, an it smoked for a couple days.
Ill never put that shit in a rotary again.

If it keeps smoking, something prolly gone bad.

yea its called a rebuild... which is only temporary cause you know its going to blow up again. :0

If you are worried about seals going the "ATF trick" was the wrong thing to put in there...

you will be surprised at how much oil/atf can be collected in the exhaust

go drive it around, get it hot, report agian in a few days

if its still there... then worry....

why 60:1?

doesnt mazda run 200-250:1 and 100:1 is the generally agreed amount?

60:1 is pretty extreme. I would think that some or all of the smoke is from too much pre-mix. We run 100:1 with no MOP. Add more gas!

If the engine smokes on lift throttle then it is likely that an oil control ring has failed. The only real repair is an over-haul - the seals are a part of the gasket set. I was able to stop the smoke temporarily by putting in a qt of Hyperlube No Smoke.
