Is sustained engine braking bad for engines on premix?
 

I was thinking about this today while hauling tail down the highway (and the subsequent slowing for tolls).

With the stock oil injection system, it's not a problem. The tips get lubrication when the engine is turning.

With premix, the tips aren't being lubricated when engine braking (fuel cutoff and all). I know that 2-cycle oil leaves a lubricating film behind, but I don't know how *long* it sticks around.

Will doing serious engine braking from high speed (say, 80mph to 20mph, over 30-40 seconds) cause problems at some point, or is that OK to do?

I dont think its too bad. My logic for this is that there is no combustion going on, the only forces at work are friction between the apex seals and the rotor housings. It is definately a much more bareable condition than wot acceleration. I dont think you have too much to worry about. The chrome plating on the rotor housing is porous and designed to hold oil to help lubricate the apex seals.

I do this all the time, and I don't see any noticable degradation from the heavy decel.
