can you extract and replace the studs in the wheel hub with out a press?

Can you? Maybe. If you have a bench vise I've pressed things out using a socket as a spacer. So, open the vise, put a socket that is large enough in diameter for the back end of the stud to be pushed into-- yet small enough that it sits soundly against the hub. Try squeezing it out, they are not pressed in all that far.

Option #2 is to get a plain wheel nut, thread it on until it's flush with the end of the stud, and :bash:

Since I couldn't get the control arm bushings out, I ended up buying a 12ton press. Cost was $100. No, don't use it much, but it's come in handy when you need it.

If you have ABS, don't forget to remove the ABS piece behind the studs before you go banging them out of there.

And if you want to replace the rears (i.e. replacing all the studs), then absolutely you need a press. 12 tonner was 89 bucks on sale at harbor Freight. So far so good, it's helped me replace all the bushings in the suspension now :)

if you are going to replace a stud with the hub on the car it is possible to carefully hammer out the old stud and install the new one using a lug nut to pull the stud back into the hub. if you only have one to replace I would try it, but if there are several it will save time and effort by removing the hub and using a hydraulic press to remove and install the studs.

what i'm trying to do is install my hubsentric spacers. They came with studs longer than the stock studs. I orginal was going to press the old studs out and put the longer studs in and use the spacer as just a spacer. Now that I'm looking at it, it will probley be easier to bore out the spacer to make room for the bolt and just bolt the spacer to the hub, then the tire to the spacer. I hate to do it, more parts that can loosen.
