Stuck 6 Ports
My 90 GXL has stuck 6 ports and the 2 pots are operational as they go up&dn real easy.
But I can barely rotate shafts with a pair of vise grips. Would you guys recommend that I warmed up the engine and spray some wd-40 to make it easier. I thought about spraying carb cleaner down the little 1/4" tube directly above it. I've popped the little blocking plate held on by a bolt and philip screw, thinking I could spray some down the opening so I can pull out the entire shaft. I've done this before on an 87NA by removing the entire intake manifold and fuel lines, but I figure the techniques mentioned above should save me a few hours of unneccessary labor. Thanks again. |
Hello. If you are only unsticking them to sell the car then this might work, however this will not eliminate the carbon that made them stick in the first place.
I tried to do this on my 87 RX7 but with no success.:( I ended up taking the intake off and removing the sleeves and completely cleaning them out. I know this is a pain, but to make sure you are getting all the carbon out, this would be the only way. If you find another way that is better, please advise. :) Have fun! |
For what it's worth, I noticed after I decarboned my engine with water injection that the sleeves rotated much easier. I had tried adding fuel injector cleaner to my gas tank and carb cleaner in the throttle body but that didn't work.
