Stripped thread in rear wheel
While changing a rear tire, one of the lugs did not tighten but kept on turning. The dealer says that I have to replace the axle. Is this correct? A repair shop says that I have to change the hub. This does not sound right. Can anybody give me advice? I have a 1985 model. The front tires are mounted on hubs but I don't think the rear ones are.

if its disc brakes on the back
then just get a new rotor if its drum brakes youll need to tap the hole out or get a new axle btw the dealer will gouge you if you get an axle here is a good place http://atlantarx7.com/rearend1gen.html |
Or you can just drive it like I have done for years.

The stud will drive out the back of the axle flange . You can pull a new one in with a nut and several washers on the new stud . Get a long handle break bar to make it so easy that you will laugh at the dealer .

Sounds like a potential balance problem? Or am I wrong?

The off weight is to near the center to be a large out of balance .
