Stock 79' 12A high RPM power range problem

Hey, I'm Ryan and I have an stock 79' FB, it's ran alright except for one strange problem with the engine struggling to meet 5500 RPM's, sometimes even 4500 RPM's. I've read the forums and I haven't seen any similar problems. at first I though there was too much fuel getting through and choking it out, and it could be the problem, but I've had numerous mechanics adjust and readjust the carb and it always ends up the same. I'll admit as I've posted before, I do not know a lot about these cars so any help would be great. Thanks for anyone that helps or try's, hope you all have a nice summer.

have you changed the fuel filter? as a matter of fact, when was your last tuneup? have you checked the fuel pump itself and also the consistency of it's power supply?

I'm actually ordering in a fuel filter, now with the consistency of the fuel pumps power supply, is there a way to change the power supply by tweaking the fuel pump? If so how would you do it? Thanks again.

i was suggesting you should consider re-wiring it so you could benefit from newer, better wires and relay. also, it would go directly to the battery. there are a few threads that can guide you.

what about the tuneup?

Thanks, and with the tune up, It hasn't had one in a while, got one last year when I first got it around august but it ran the same as it does now, I've been focusing on one thing at a time for it so it's hard to afford all the necessities for it. I'll probably end up getting one early July after I've checked the fuel pump wiring and put my new idler arm on it. Thanks again, I love this car and I'm trying pretty hard to keep it going, next is going to be the headlights, they went out the other day, the dash doesn't light up and the lights won't even pop up unless I leave them down for a long period of time and only with the center console switch.. Kinda weird if you ask me.
