is it a power assisted steering or just plain power steering?

Why don't you look under the hood?

Look for a power steering pump. It will be on the driver side of the engine bay. It will have a cap on it labeled "Power Steering Fluid". If you have A/C, there will be an A/C compressor over there too. Don't get the two confused, the A/C compressor doesn't have a fluid fill tube like the power steering pump.

mainly im wanting to know if i remove the power steering will it be impossible to steer or will it be about the same as an 87 that didnt have the power steering

If you have power steering and remove it, it may be slightly stiffer than a car with a manual steering rack. Peoples opinion on that varies based on the size and strength of the arms. If you remove the PS pump, make sure you siphon some of the fluid out of the power steering rack before you cap the holes where the lines from the pump attach. If its full of fluid it will build up too much pressure. But you gotta have some fluid so it will lubricate the steering gear. I removed my power steering and the only difference I feel is when I try to turn the wheel when the car is sitting still. When the car is moving, even very slow, its not bad turning the wheel and its amazing how much more you feel the control you have over the front wheels. Its not as wishy-washy as with power steering.

In general, it will not be the same as a manual steering FC.
The manual steering rack ratio is 20:1.
The power steering rack ratio is 15:1.
With a reduction of 25%, I'm sure it'll be significantly harder to turn.

HUH?????

"Power assisted steering" and "power steering" are two different names for the exact same thing.
