Starting rebuilt motor

hey last night I started my freshly rebuilt motor which has everything new except housings. they are in very good condition. It started up after 2 seconds. I was surprised that it started up so easily without being timed and everything. After about 30 seconds I killed it because I had a leaking coolant hose. I started it up about 20 minutes later and it was harder to fire up but still only took 5 or 6 seconds. After that I had to kill after 5 minutes because of a smoke screen. I live in a snoody neighborhood and neighbors were coming out thinking their houses were on fire. Now I have been trying all day to get it started, deflooding it and trying again and again. I got it to sputter a couple times. I know I should have let it run for 30 mins or so to burn everything off and break it in. How long does it usually take for a rebuilt motor to become easy to start? any suggestions on how to get it started? btw I have a microtech that has not really been tuned thoroughly but it was running the motor before it blew. (s5 turbo motor)

Put a little oil i the spark plug holes to build compression again.
