starting problems

Hello to everyone:) my 88gxl is having some problems. Since yesterday morning when I start the car, it idles very erratically and backfires a bit . I get little or no smoke from the exhaust and after 10 seconds or so the engine idles normal. The car seems to run fine, I only run into problems after I park the car and try to start it up again about 1hour later or so. This is usually after a 30 min drive or so. When I try to start it up again it acts as if its flooded and the only way to start it is by using the fuel cutoff switch i installed. Whats wrong with my car?. It used to fire up all the time with an occassional engine flood (1once a month at most) I have no idea as to what I should be checking. I maintain fluids on a regular basis, and changed the spark plugs about 2months ago. Any help would be greatly appreciated-Thanks in advance -Ren

i would guess leaky injectors, but i think you'd get some smoke with that.

not overly familiar with the Gen II cold-start circuit, but that may also be a point to check.

I agree on the leaky injector(s). Do you notice any black smoke when you first start it? You said you see little or no smoke, so when you see "little", what color is it.

blue= oil
white=coolant
black=fuel

I have a feeling im having the same problem.. the car runs very strong but when i shut mine down for a couple of hours its a bitch to start.. I pulled the plugs to take alook at them to see if they where fould but one of them was wet... smelled like gas..

When it finaly does start it burns alot of smoke for about a min or 2 then starts to run rock solid... could this be the problem?>

aswell, if the injectors are leaky would that possibly be because of carbon build up etc.. could something like STP fuel injector cleaner help that at all?
