is a standalone ECU necessary?

Hey guys

Im about to buy a used '94 FD and Im going to be installing a new catback, downpipe and intake. I had a thread about my body kit in the exterior section, and it turned into a mod-list-for-me thread, so Ive decided to post my questions here. I was talking to one of the members in that thread about what mods I should get, and I mentioned that I was going to get a Power FC, and he said that its "nice" to have but not necessary. It would be great for me not to have this, since its another 1k in my pocket, and I dont need the performance that it gives, but if it drastically increases reliability, then obviously I would get it. So I guess my question is if the stock ECU can handle the air/fuel issues if I install a catback, downpipe and intake. I'll also be getting an aluminum AST and radiator, along with silicon hoses, but I'm just not sure about the ECU. Also, considering that im not a "tuner" and dont have the car computing skills to program and tune my own car, is the Power FC the best option, if I do need an aftermarket ecu? (also, any other opinions/tips about my new quest into the FD world would be great :) )

Thanks

Ashok
