Spool but no boost

Car was driving a treat today but after giving it a boot the turbos sound increased but no boost. The gauge rose up then shot down but the turbos were still spooling, if I don't plant my foot I can gain some boost but if you try to open it up boost disappears, I have checked hosing and and re tightened my intake pipe work of my ARC air intake but not driven it again, maybe a busted inter cooler pipe? Hmmm any help would be great

stuck wastegate???

Frith FD 07-28-13 03:42 PM

I'm hoping its that simple

flaco 07-28-13 03:52 PM

turbos ? im guessing you still running stock twins, if you are running the stock intercooler check for the plastic ruberish pipes , might be cracked

Frith FD 07-28-13 04:22 PM

I have reamemiya stock mount cooler with greddy elbow. It sounds like a process of elimination to find a leak of a cracked pipe, blown hose or stuck/loose waste gate. I will continue to look thanks for the ideas

Check all the couplers one may have cracked , or gotten loose . also check your vacume hoses the ones you can just make sure everything is in place

Ok so checked everything and replaced IC clamps and all is ok, took it for a drive and I've got boost up until 4000rpm then it cuts out. This has got me stumped

Frith FD 08-07-13 07:17 AM

Ahhhhhh finally found the links page for FDs tech help A-Z awesome

Tem120 08-07-13 08:01 AM

Ok , what do you mean cuts out?

as in you lose boost? are you doing wide open throttle pulls or just part throttle ?

at around 4000 rpms the secondary turbo opens if you are running sequential . and when that happens the turbos need more exhaust flow to spool so you will lose boost if you are not wot , or at-least with some moderate throttle.

Frith FD 08-07-13 03:44 PM

Yeh I loose boost around the 4000rpm, my gauge will drop right back and splutter around 2-5 psi and I can hear loud air loss a heavy spool noise

Tem120 08-13-13 10:40 AM

What do your air fuel ratios say?

Frith FD 08-14-13 06:17 AM

Don't know I don't have the right gauge

Check all your clamps , specially the Y pipe look for cracked couplers . and loose clamps check all your vacume lines.

the hissing noise is a give away that you might have a boost leak

NoMoregoodUsernames 08-14-13 03:05 PM

Manifold gasket leaks anyone? It's possible

Frith FD 09-11-13 07:14 AM

Turbo control solenoid and the vacuum solenoid chamber have been sent to get fixed/replaced

I am having the saaaame problem... I replaced most solenoids and sensors, replaced all vacuum lines with silicons, still problem, and sometimes when it cuts off with a "TOOOOOOWW!" Horn Sound!
But with me it's sometimes yes and sometimes no boost!?

I really really wanna know why?! I can't enjoy driving my rx7 without boost?!

Frith FD 09-16-13 06:58 AM

Totally agree, I've been assured its either the solenoid control box which is under the manifold in the birds nest of vacuum hoses or it could be the turbo control solenoid which is bolted to the bottom of the manifold. Both items relate specifically to the change over from primary to secondary which is at that 4000rpm mark, I am yet to be proven on this and your case may be different to mine. There are also a few non return valves to check they're green and white

Frith FD 10-03-13 05:40 AM

Ok so I'm no better as yet, I have replaced the solenoid chamber holding the multi colour terminal solenoid a and multiple vacuum hoses, I've replaced the turbo control solenoid above the chamber and I have replaced the twin turbo pre control and waste gate solenoids as I broke them during the other works the hoses were very fragile. So I'm back to the drawing board ahhhhhhhh what else controls the change over from primary to secondary at 4000rpm?

RE.Amemiya.FD3S 10-27-13 03:30 AM

I am having it checked now at the garage, I am also rebuilding the engine, but this may take time, I'll share with you my results...

CNCROTAMOTAS 11-01-13 08:34 PM

I'm not quite sure if it maybe the same but my buddy had similar symptoms in his tII his blow off valve was the problem its worth a shot he had a tial and it would open under throttle had to rebuild it and it was fine

ahmadhasib 11-03-13 10:09 PM

I'm having similar issues with mine. From reading the forums, it sounds like a leak in the vacuum lines. I'll need to go through the rats nest to figure it out.

Frith FD 11-04-13 04:52 PM

I'm starting my full vacuum hose replacement to blue drift silicone hoses so I know which ones are done as I go, my next attack was the charge control actuator but that seems to work, I noticed on my last drive that I also lost primary boost if I drove it to 4000rpm where it normally looses boost and changed gears I am also loosing boost on the lower revs, keep going on the process of elimination I guess
