smoke problem
 

i have one problem with my car. When i start my car and it's cold, there's a lot of white smoke from my exhaust. Then, when it heat up, the smoke just gone. What can be the reason? What i did to my engine: I change the new engine, having street port, new Downpipe and Midpipe (Straight pipe), HKS exhaust, HKS J-spec intake... I'm still using the stock turbo, and there's a leak on the turbo, so when i push the car hard, there will be a white smoke coming out.

My mechanic told me that one of the main reason is because the car still has the stock ECU and it runs rich. If so, how come it doesn't produce the smoke all the time, just only when it's cold.

If i put Power FC on it, would it help?

There are two reasons I can think of, if your sideseals are not properly sealing then oil can collect in the housing, usually after they engine cools and the tollerences change. Two the stock turbo uses a gravity drain system, if you park on an incline the oil will drip in to the exhaust housing of the turbo, and when you start up the car it burns the smoke.


it sounds like the issue is with your turbo I wouln't worry too much, the engine running rich has nothing to do with it. Who is your mechanic? Sounds like he want you to put more money in your car.

my car doesn't park on an incline, so is it possible for the turbo to be the reason? i think may be the leak let the oil drip into the exhasut and i have to burn it out everytime i start up....

How about a solid solid white cloud big enough to cover someones yard.. Cats melting??? smells like burnt plastic from the exh.

I havent seen anything of that sort ever since i switched to power pulse mufflers to tell you the truth.. 88 S4 NA. Still never figured out what it was, my guess is oil saturating the mufflers now.

Aaaahh yes the hovering white cloud, this is not good to inhale, it's acutly caused by the gas. When the rotors are still cold usually during morning startups the combustion is far from complete and is producing emissions that are not environment friendly. Gas that is collected in the cat or exhuast, from a flooded engine burns away slowly, the product is the white cloud.

actually you know what the prob is? white smoke = burn coolant, you have a coolant seal problem, sine it's cold, the seal shrinks and let coolant in, when car heats up, the seal expand and fill up the gap. you should get it fix before the seal breaks and smoke will come out all the time, i just bought my FC and it does that. I am too is trying to fix that. There are these thing @ the auto store that fix radiator leak and seal all of the gasket, that might work, ive tried it but i was dumb enough to do it when the engine is already warm and the gasket expanded so there's nothing to seal. Tomorrow im going to try it when it's still cold and the gasket is still letting coolant in. Ill keep you notified. but coolant seal can cost alot to replace plus the engine need to be rebuilt once the seal is broken that's what i herd.
