smog pump
hey guys i would like to remove my smog pump but i dont know where it is located on my 89 GXL could someone post up a diagram of the pulleys ive been trying to look for one online but can not seem to find one.
- Thanks |
It's right next to the air box. You know your auxiliary ports won't open if you take it off, right?
|
can you explain the auxiliary ports? and i thought that was the water pump which is right next to the air box?

On an S5 N/A (89-92) you need the air pump to open the auxiliary ports unless you rig something else up. Basically, these ports open at (give or take) 3,800 rpm and the VDI opens at 5,500 rpm to make more power. Taking the smog pump off will make it so they don't open anymore and you'll lose top end. You could rig them open, but it would be like "VTEC coming on at 1,200 rpms. "
There should be a rubber hose that's about an inch thick going from the air box to the smog pump. It's the pump that's the furthest left on your motor. I'd leave the smog pump on until you read more about the auxiliary ports. Just do a search for it in the 2nd gen tech section. |
ahh ok thanks alot i might not remove it then do you know any other quick ways of making a few horses?

Yeah, I don't know what a motorless parts car has to do with anything.
|

I saw the other thread it was in. It was cut up into little pieces and sold for scrap.
