I'm not sure which is which (I've asked before without response), but the rotor housings and side housings are made from different materials. One is aluminum, the other being steel.

Some added questions:

Carbon content?
Alloys?
What type, like 4140 OQT 1300, etc..?? (This would be best info I could use.)

the irons are cast iron and the rotor housings are aluminum.

simple. :)

Thanks, but there are 5 types of cast iron. So which one? :)
1. gray - general purpose
2.malleable - ductile (heat treated)
3.white - hard and wear resitant
4.ductile - ductile when cast
5.Alloy cast irons - special purpose

I`m doing a technical report for school comparing different hardening techniques and would like to have relatively accurate report.

i am pretty sure they are alloy but not a 100% probably about 75% sure.

housings are aluminum w/ a chrome coating and teflon that wears away quickly but resides in the pores of the chrome plating. That helps lubricate if it's ever w/o oil
This is about Series 4's though. Dunno about any other types.
Some type of special porous chrome plating too, if you want the exact name for the plating or any more explanation on it, PM me and I'll be glad to help :D

:) ummm, Node, that`s the rotor housings, I`m looking for the side/intermediate housings.

Thanks for trying anyways.
