RX8 Waterpump on RX7 FD3
 

I was talking to someone the other day and they told me the rx8 water pump runs in reverse to the Rx7? All the pictures I can find shown the blades to be formed in the same direction as the RX7 FD3 pump though?
Long and the short of it was I am thinking if you can swap the blade or complete pump cover on the FD3 so that you get a pump which runs in reverse. Reason for this is it will avoid the belt slip people suffer when they remove the airpump and run underdrive pulley kits as you can wrap the belt around the pulley and run a ribbed pulley? Maybe the pump would be too in efficient due to the shapes inside the housing even if the blade was correct to run in reverse?

Anyone done anything like this? How do you get the blade off the waterpump? That is the next question! Didn't seem to budge in the press the other day!

well the belt is on the other side of the Rx8 water pump pulley, so it spins the other direction...

Is it too much work to simply buy an idler pulley like the one pineapple or tweakit sells?

So it spins backwards.. Is the blade reversed as well? I didn't think it was? Or is it just not as efficient!?

I was just thinking of another option that could be nice and compact and not need an extra pulley! I am working on a 20B conversion and space is in short supply in the engine bay!

Im running a gt42r on my 20b with a v-mount and I have plenty of space with the pineapple idler.

What not just use the updated series 7 water pump? It has a better design.

The rx8 pump will not bolt up to the fd wp housing.

Is it possible to swap impellers tho?
