whas it rebuilt before?? if so how long ago? and can you show a pic of the thrust bearings ???

serbRX7 10-10-11 12:37 PM

yea trust bearings look to be in really good shape to... i can take some pic i will post them later tonight...

the rx8 water seals also looked like new...i was also thinking that the engine was rebuilt recently ...i do not know the history of the car i just got it for really cheap with blown engine...

looks like a lack of lubrication issue, i would check into that before tossing the motor together and thinking all will be ok. bearings don't generally fail in these engines without a real cause.

the rotors are pretty beat up and the shaft is no longer usable so you will need a new shaft.

the housings all look good but i'd still recommend sending them to goopy to be resurfaced as i can see some ridges in the surfaces. they will also be able to help you with oversize bearings for the worn rotors.

except the RX8 is very forgiving with the oil level light, the oil light comes on when the engine is approximately 1/2-3/4 quart low. the earlier engines wouldn't trip the light until the oil level was 3 quarts down and running on oil vapors.

so if he cooked the motor due to not adding oil he deserved to own a brick.

i didn't update this thread as i was going along...it was rx8 oil thermal pellet that failed

put the new engine together with solid oil thermal pallet...

had some problem along the way with rebuild...was my first rebuild..but everything got sorted out

ended up selling the car 1 year later as my soon was on the way...was relay sad after all that work...but i made some money on it and new owner is still happy with it

still got another spare rx8 engine ready for assembly debating on selling the parts still hopping to pick up another rx8 in need of help
