rx7 fd how to make it more reliable??
 

i wanna drive it on daily basis? engine swap? or should i change the parts??

I drive mine every day. I have determined that after 2 years of daily driving, it doesn't matter if its 100 pct stock or if you have a single turbo. They are going to blow up the engine and drain your wallet. Your dreams of a reliable "FD" are in reality a fantasy because it will never come true.

alrite...well how about this....if you drive it on a daily basis...how long you think the engine will last????10 mins highway speed (80-100km) and street driving (50-70km)
how lond you think tha engine will last?

No they dont blow up that fast
unless you drive it freakin hard and over rev then it will pop.
I have had mine for 2 years still going strong
but I did destroy my diff.

A rotary engine will go well over 100,000 miles. Its just like any other engine or machine. You take car of it, it will last longer. You beat the shit out of it and don't do routine maintenance, it won't last as long. Thats the case with most sports cars, not just rotary powered cars. People get them cause they are sporty, high performance cars, beat on them, can't afford the repairs, then all of a sudden its an unreliable car. How many of you drift or autocross a '96 Ford Escort with 88 RWHP on the weekends, then drive it to work on Monday morning? Yeah, thats what I thought.

He said "FD", not "Rotary Engine". While a "FD" has a "Rotary Engine" in it, it also has twin turbos. Im sure less than 1 pct of the FD cars made it to 100,000 miles on the original engine.

I changed my oil every 2500-3000 miles and treated the car very good. PLease don't give me the "your car was not tuned right" or "you did not maintain it " bullshit.

I chose to pay the near $7,000 to have my engine and turbo's rebuilt and other things while the engine was out. Just like I'm choosing to get my tranny rebuilt now. In N/A form I'm not going to argue with your reliablity thing (except the RX-8), its hard to make a rotary unreliable when it makes zero torque (except the rx8, they managed to get near zero torque and still blow up the engines).

btw..I love this car.

My car has never let me down. Change oil every 3000 miles, change coolant at least every 2nd year. Replace coolant system hoses (all of them) and engine belts every 5 years. Install a downpipe. Keep the oil and coolant full. Install a boost gauge. When there is something in the boost system not right, fix it or get it fixed (not by a Mazda dealer, by a knowledgeable shop). Don't drive if it's not working right. For a daily driver, don't race it. If you want a race car, get a race car.

Best defense in sigle turbo and cooling mods. Stay on the street and drive it like a normal car and it will get you from point A to B for a while. Had mine for 2 years and 35K mi. never a problem. Basically make it like a FC.
However other little shit will break no matter what.

high compression = low engine life


You want a reliable FD? Then get rid of those turbo's!!
Get bigger radiators (both water AND oil ones), don't get an Auto (in an auto, you generally have to thrash it to get any decent movement!)
