RX7 89 and 88 rotors.... 13b
 

How does one tell the difference between 89 and 88 rotors. I had a 89 turbo2 rx7 that I took the motor out of and sold the pieces on ebay and now some guy is trying to tell me that the parts are 88 and not 89 which is pretty ironic since the motor is original and the parts were original, if they are in fact 88 rotors, how in the hell did they get in my 89 rx7?

assuming that the were never molested with, the 89 rotor recesses should be machined to a noticeably smoother finish that the 1986-88 rotors. i suppose there may also be data out there about the volumes of the recess, since the compression ratios are different. 89 and newer rotors would also be lighter.

aside from any of these differences, you should probably poke around in the Gen II section to find outany more methods of identifying which is which.
