A rotary question.
Is it ok to keep revs over 5-6K for long periods of time? Like say a 100mph blast on the freeway for 20 miles or more? I've got an s5.
Is there anymore wear on a rotary vs. a piston motor? |
rotaries loved to be revved but yo have to be careful

^ This has always been my understanding as well. Many club members track and AutoX their RX7s, and as long as you can keep your temps down you should be safe.

I usually end up driving on the highway in 4th, I don't drive fast enough to keep the revs over 3000 in 5th often, and I've found I get awful fuel economy with the revs low.
That's exactly why I asked. My syncro between 4th and 5th is starting to go so i'm trying to get by without going into 5th on the freeway. In my vert, 100mph is about 6k. I really don't plan on going much faster but it's reassuring to know that I still have a couple thousand r's left to play with. You really get better mileage with higher revs? |
I've gone from chicago to palm springs in 2 days and my s5 seemed to love it. By the third fill up I was getting close to 400 miles per tank, I was drafting a lot. I do tend to drive on the faster side on the highway, just watch those temps.
