Rotary Engine Swap into a VW JETTA
 

I have never donr a swap but I was wondering what all is involved into swapping engines. I've seen many FD's and FC's having V8's put in them so I was thinking if I just do the opposite in spec kinda copying the idea backwards to get a better idea on what to do. I was going to have a shop do it for me but there is not one around reputable to trust. I'd like to make it my project but not take so long as to take months and months to do.
I think it would be an awesome project to do and I'd rather go with a rotary over cylinders anyday. If I cant have my dream Rx7 I'll just do a drop. Found some engines for 500-1000 with no probs; from wrecked or just pulls.

There are soooooo many things you would have to do that it would cost way too much $$$$.

Put a VR6 in that baby, or a 1.8T if you really want to be badass. I would much rather have a 1.8T in a VW then a 13BT.

Plus, a lot of people are starting to swap those 1.8T's since people are finally starting to crash up their new VW's. From what I hear, they aren't too expensive either, since not many people are looking for them.

For some reason I concur that the only way to may a VW worth having is droping in a 13b or other motor. I have personally seen a 1.8t rabbit get 10g's in mods and run a 14.7 quarter. Thats fast. The only thing a VW is good for young executives, and students who don't get into the scene. That's all.

They are deffinately right as far as the high price tag when the other options are so fesible. I think the biggest problem would be converting your car to rear wheel drive. Even if you wanted it to be a race car and you were willing to sink the cash into it , you would have to consider weight ratio issues. The weight on a vw is acclimated to front wheel drive(with a few exceptions).

I had assumed that he wanted to keep it FWD, by somehow using a VW tranny.

Just curious, has ANYONE ever installed a rotary engine transversely?

I've seen it done into a 944 Porshe, and a Sandrail with a VW Tranny, but haven't done it myself :D
