REW Mounting Idea

Hi, I had an idea for mounting the REW into a non Mazda car. Wanted to run it by some Rotary guru's that may know of why I shouldn't do this.

Basically the idea is to weld a plate on the REW front cover and tap it to accept a mounting bracket. So basically mount the engine like 12a's.

Is the REW front cover known to be weak or are there any other issues that one could think of why one shouldn't be mounted like the 12a?

I would need to grind down/cut out one threaded bung on the front cover of course.

made a quick sketch in paint of the thought.

Just use a gsl-se front cover and oil pan, we do it all the time.

i saw an FD front cover modded to have the 1st gen mounts once, so its possible.

I would rather not use gal-se due to needing a variety of other parts and still have to make mounts since it's going in a starlet.

I will see how it goes then if someone else has done something similar.

You need a front sump 13b oil pan and a 12a front cover 2 mount the motor like a 12a.I have a corolla and the engine bay is a littler bigger than a starlet and there is no room at all 2 built any type of cross member 2 use the stock rew mounts. On the starlet the cross member has 2 be modified and the original engine mount brackets removed and then you have the steering components on the way 2.You also a need a turbo 2 trans with the shifter moved forward 2 make enough room 2 push the motor back and down low cause if not the shifter will end up on the rear seats.
The other way is 2 have the firewall modified and have a midplate install and do it that way.

You're going to need to weld on some heavy reinforced bungs to mimic the GSL-SE front cover . Make sure to jig your front cover on an old scrap iron, bolt it down well, so you don't warp it.
