replacing auto engine with MT engine

I bought an auto rx7 with intentions of swapping to a MT. On the way home from buying it the engine blew though and now I am swapping an engine instead of transmission. I am buying an engine from a manual transmission equipped car. Do I have to replace the counter balance in the manual engine with the counterbalance from the auto engine?

Well, here is what I have found...

If swapping same year engines then you must attach the auto counterweight with the auto flexplate (the thing that the tranny hooks onto). This will replace the flywheel/counterweight assembly of the MT engine.

k so that sounds like a yes I have to pull off the front cover then...

Hmm. Maybe I was a little confusing. I am pretty sure that if the engine is the same you can just swap the rear counterweight and flexplate in place of the flywheel/counterweight assembly.

I talked to a bunch of people about this when I put my Cosmo in because I was trying to figure out what flywheel to use. I ended up using my auto tranny counterweight with a lightweight flywheel so it should be the same in your situation, except you are going the other way.

Well of course u have to get a starter for a manual tranny.

manual starter wont do me any good with an auto transmission. I'm locating the parts right now. Found good deals on most of the main stuff. Youre welcome to come install it all :)
