Renesis/13B "Hybrid"??
 

Hey, i was thinking last night, and if it would be possible, if you could take a renesis block and put like low compression turbo rotors in it from an s4/s5 or something, and then turbo the hell out of it? Would that be possible? I know next to nothing about the renesis motors, but i do know a fair bit on the 13B's (i own an 88 n/a). So with this "hybrid" would it have low enough compression to run a fair amount of boost? or would it be better just to do a full 13BT buildup? Im just curious and i dont think that this has ever been asked before, so i thought i would.

why waste the money. their is no + side to this idea.
just buy a 13BT

The reason the renesis is not turbo already is because it runs WAY cooler than the previous engine styles and this means lower efficiency for the turbo since there is less heat to run it. probably be better off putting renesis rotors into a 13B. (mind you, I have no idea what the compression ratio or weight of these are I just know that the way you are saying to do it will not help much) Also I have heard of good shops trying to get results from these rotors and having little luck.

Since when do turbos run on heat?...

Uhh yea no kidding, if anything the motors running cooler would probably be a huge advantage as u could run more boost than normally, since the block is in a safer heat margin to begin with.

The reason the RX-8 doesn't have a turbo is because it was meant to be affordable, and have decent gas mileage and emissions.

If there's even gonna be another RX-7, it'll probably cost at least $40,000...

i wont comment on why the rx8 doesnt run turbos very well. . . as i dont own one and probably wouldnt turbocharge it anyways. BUT, the reason heat is GOOD for a turbo is that the heat EXPANDS across the turbine wheel. exhaust passes by. . . yes. . . that makes it spin, but the heat expansion is pretty key to helping with spool. this is a good reason for ceramic coating and heat blankets/wrap. now, of course, too much heat is always a bad thing. . . but that starts getting into properly sized housings and wheel configurations.

Well obviously, the hotter an exhaust pulse is, the better a turbo will spool, but I think saying that only hot engines are suitable for turbo's is foolish. Not to mention the fact that the engine will run hotter because of the turbo, anyway.

And there isn't a rotary engine out there that doesn't have flaming-hot exhaust (above average).

right, i guess i worded it wrong. what you are referring too though is the engines temperature. combustion/exhaust gas temperatures are what help out in spool. running an engine hotter (by adding a turbo) wont do what the rotary engine already does. . . and about that. . . the rotary engines flaming hot exhaust and constant exhaust pulses are what make it turbo hungry. . . BUT that same characteristic is the reason we have to use properly sized turbine housings and wheels. :)

I think that the Rx-8 engine is more weak than the Rx-7 one , cause It have the lateral housign from aluminum and the other are iron , I think that a good idea is to try to run the Rx-8 rotors on a Rx-7 engine and you can run a smaller turbo with no lag and nice power.
The advantage of the Rx-8 rotors are that they are more ligth than the Rx-7 ones.
And I know that the bearing of inside the engine are a litle bit betters cause it runs in a hi rpm range.
I do not know a lot of the Renesis engine but I think that could be a good idea to do some kind of hibrid with the 13B.
