Removing the transmission
I am removing the transmission and putting in a new one. I have taken all the bolts off of the tranny and it is wiggling around like it wants to come out but there is something stoping it. I think its in the bell housing. It is a fork type lever that has something to do with the clutch and I need to find out how to make it let go of the tranny. If you have done this before it would be great if you wourd give me some tips on releasing the fork. Thanks

You must release the snap ring, attached to the pressure plate fingers, from the throwout bearing.
Two ways: Remove the inspection plate above the starter and pull the release fork towards the back of the car with your left hand, as far as you possibly can and hold it there. Put a flat head screwdriver through the lower right inspection plate opening and slide it between the throwout bearing and the snap ring. Twist the screwdriver to release it. or slightly easier Throught the lower right inspection opening, put a large screwdriver behind the clutch fork and pry/ push the fork and throwout as far as you can towards the front of the car and hold. Then take another flathead screwdriver and place it between the throwout and the snap ring and twist the screwdriver to free it. The key is getting the throwout bearing as far towards the ring/clutch plate as you possibly can. The snap ring will then easily come off of the throwout. |
