Removed Power Steering Pump, Car Cranks but Doesn't Start
I removed the power steering pump from my '87 FC NA. Was careful to remove only wires connected to the pump. Car was running just fine before, but now when we go start it it will crank over but not start. I'm stumped as to what could be preventing the car from firing. Any ideas?

Make sure the crank angle sensor is plugged in. It's in that general area.

Checked, crank angle sensor is plugged in.

Make sure the plug wires are back on the correct plugs.
De-flood it. Try starting it again with a little starter fluid into the intake. There isn't anything else related to the power steering system that would prevent the car from running, so you must've touched something else. |
Tried all that, still no luck. Triple-checked all the connections and wires on that entire side of the engine...everything seems in order.

Just remembered one other thing I did...removed the belt from the A/C compressor (but left everything else attached). Don't know whether that would have anything to do with it or not.

Pulled one of the spark plugs and cranked over the engine...there is spark. And there's fuel because I can smell it.

You didn't disconnect the pump(pull the egi fuse) before you pulled the plug out and rolled that engine over.Did you?..(shake your head..no I did not) Find a GOOD Deflood thread. you need to do more than just pull a plug. |
