Rebuilding life

if a 3rd generation Twin Turbo engine is rebuilt, how long it will last?

peejay 07-22-02 04:42 PM

'Bout the same as a new one, if rebuilt correctly.

I don't care who rebuilts it, it will NEVER be the same as a brand new engine.

it depends on the condition of the parts used. for example, if rotor housings last 80,000miles and your engine has 60,000 miles and you reuse them most of their life is already gone.

But if you rebuild with five new housings and new rotors, it's practically a new engine....

yup, but how do you know you got new housings

You need to measure them to see if they are still in specs.

Buy the video and learn it all for yourself..

It's definitely worth the money even if you decide not to do the job yourself.

a Mazda reman has two new rotor housings and at least two new side housings (maximum of one lapped used side housing per engine).

beyond that, i know all seals are replaced also, but i don't know about bearings/rotors. i do know that the core engines are disassembled, all seals and obviously damaged/worn parts thrown away, as well as any modified parts (ported housings are automatically scrapped) everything else is cleaned and measured, side housings lapped, and anything considered good is placed into inventory.

engines are then assembled from a minimum spec of new parts and the remaining parts are grabbed from inventory.

unless they have changed this since delco remy took over that is incorrect. the engines get all new seals and gaskets, the rest is all good used unless they run out.
i doubt they measure anything either, the fd motors apex seal grooves are all over spec (you can measure thru the exhaust port)i have even seen rotors with chunks missing. they dont even clean the outside of the housings they just spray paint over the dirt. the flip side of the coin, though is that sometimes you do get a new engine, or one with mostly new parts
