Rebuild and Street Port - First Start
 

Hey guys,

It's been a long time since I've spoken of my car on here and that's a long story. However, I've got the engine back together and everything is bolted on. It's hanging from the cherry picker ready to slide back in.

I'm a little anxious because last time I built the motor, I got everything put back in the car and turned the key, it wouldn't start. I found out what the problem was when I found the end piece of my apex seal laying on the garage floor.:uh:

A little background: I've got a lot of mods in this car but for the sake of this thread, I'm only going to mention those that directly affect the discussion. Here they are:

1993 RX-7,
Walbro 255 LPH Fuel Pump,
850 Primary Injectors,
1680 Secondary Injectors,
KG Fuel Rails, FPR, etc,
Power FC ECU - Previously Tuned by Steve Kan,
HKS Twin Power Ignition Amplifier,
New NGK Iridium Spark Plugs,
New Wires,
Medium / Large Street Port,
Wideband

Prior to this rebuild, It was tuned and running fine with everything above except the street port and the rebuild (obviously).

As far as starting a rebuild, I've read many threads over and over again about all the tips and tricks. My question is this:
What should I do to compensate for the additional air flow at startup and do you guys think that I will have any problems with too much air making it harder to start?

I will be tweaking the tune across the entire rev range to add more fuel and I won't be running it hard until I get the tune right and the engine broken in, my question is merely centered around what other people have encountered upon starting a fresh street ported engine on an ecu that was tuned for stock ports.

So nobody has ever had any problems with a fresh street port starting with a stock port tune?

Can I ask how you managed to post that EXACTLY 7 days later? Exact time and everything...

when i built mine it started right up.

:scratch: That's pretty funny, I didn't notice until you said something.

honestly, even with my minimal stand-alone experiences, i don't see why the streetport would not start on the last functional stock tune you had. obviously changes will be needed to get everything perfect, but i don't see it not firing if the everything is connected correctly and the engine doesn't have any assembly issues.

Apparently it didn't have any assemby issues!!! It started right up.

It's not exactly perfect and it struggled a little at first and died a couple of times. Eventually I got it to run without me feathering the throttle and it got up to operating temps.

My next questions will be about tuning the idle but I guess this is the wrong section to start asking those questions. Unless you guys have any advice. It's currently idling at about 1500 rpm but my idle on the commander is set to 950. Any reason it would settle at that rpm when I told it otherwise? (I know it's not the right section and I'll move all future inquiries to the tuning section)

You may have to adjust it it the throttle body in order to drop the idle. Remeber this is not an rx8 with a stepper motor adjustment.
