rebuild or sctrach
is it easier or even cheaper to just rebuild an engine or to start from sctrach and build up?
Plans would be a 13b with approx 300hp. Not to sure about the specifics, but figured 300 can be hit pretty easy, right? thanks rip |
cheaper too rebuild, that way you dont have to buy the front, intermediate and rear housings. and also each rotor housing is around 500 a piece. then you have to buy rotors and all the seals, youre already looking at 2,000+
most rebuild kits cost around 800-900. and it comes with everything you need to rebuild your motor and gaskets, and hopefully youd only have to replace 1 rotor housing if you blew a seal and it scratched up the housing, and so you could have a rebuilt motor if you do it yourself for under 1,500. I dont know if this is the most reliable advice, but its mine, you should see what the other forum members say |
300 hp is easy

thanks,
was also thinking does a company sell a stock rebuilt motor? I don't have a 13B to start from; or are the off the shelf rebuilds not that great, and one would be better to do it himself. I'm mechanically incline, but havn't messed with a rotary yet, I figured pick up a few rebuild videos and see if I can do it, probably can, not too worried about it. just wondering can I buy it rebuilt or find a core and rebuild it myself? thanks again rip |
Try to find a cheap engine and go from there, unless you got it like that, then just buy one built?

Thanks for the replies I appreciate it. So... would it be easier to find parts for a 12a or a 13b?
Given the 300hp cap off, is this attainable with the 12a, I'm figuring yes. Then what would be a good reason to use the 13b? Is a 13b easier to find parts for? Aftermarket? Turbo? Does $400-500 seem reasonable for a used 12a or 13b? thanks again for the help. rip |
