Rear rotor oil seal???
 

Im about to buy a T2 motor that was rebuilt 50 miles ago by Mazda racing. The seller said that the rear rotor oil seal is bad and engine must be taken apart to change it. Is this a big problem or can I just take it apart and reuse the gaskets,since theyre fairly new, and change the seal. I know the rear main seal can be changed with motor intact but seller said its the rear rotor oil seal. Please help before someone else buys it.

It depends.
You might open it and the gaskets might fall apart.
At least you will need that seal and o-ring

Can I get away with just pulling the rear iron off or is the whole motor comin apart? Is there a link somewhere on how to properly seat the oil seal in the rotor and will It be obvious which oil seal is bad?

If you hold the engine together you can do what you are thinking. We have used a header flange on the exhaust side and a piece of metal to bridge from the dr side engine mount bolts to the A/C studs. You should also bolt some pieces to the oil pan holes. If you are going this deep I would just get setup to keep it all organized and pull the whole thing down. I wouldn't trust the oil seals in the front rotor since they are from the same seal kit.

We have an engine out of a racecar that this just happened to. We are tearing it all down, the frustration factor would be to high if the front crappy seal went next time we run.

Replacing the oil seal is easy, you will see when you get to it. Its just an O ring in a metal ring that goes in a groove on the side of the rotor. There are two of them usually the inner one goes. The O ring goes around the outside of one of the rings and another goes on the outside of a ring. They are different sizes, you can't mix them up.

it might not be an o-ring problem but bad porting that violates the oil seal track...did the seller mention if the engine had been ported?
