Real stupid question
I just put an REW engine back together this weekend, and after bolting the intake, turbos etc back on, I found a side-seal spring laying on the bench! I am thinking that it was a spare but of course I am paranoid now.
I bolted the trans and starter up and checked compression on the engine stand. I get 3 nice even pops on both faces. I am assuming that I would see virtually no compression on a rotor face if it was missing a side-seal spring, correct? Plus I would have noticed the side-seal slipping completely into the rotor groove when assembling the rotor. Kind of a curious and mind easing question as I do not want to crack the engine back open unless I have to! :wallbash: |
Do you have any spare transmissions? Remove the bell housing and hook it up to the engine. Jump the starter off of a battery and run a compression test. I would definitely find out for sure before you install the engine.
I dont know what exact symptoms you would see as I have never ran one without a side seal :) |

That's exactly what I did. I bolted up a spare trans. I did a compression test with the schraeder valve held open and got three nice pops per rotor in the 60 range.

I would imagine you are good to go but like I said, no real experience in dealing with this.
BTW, I assume that you received the rotor housing that I sent to you and thanks for hooking me up with Kevin when I needed a rotor! |

Yea, I think so too. I broke a rule that I made with myself. Lay only the parts that go in the engine on the workbench and you will have an empty bench when you are done.
