Racing Tranny?
I have heard of a few trannys being used with rotaries like the Jerico, etc I am curious if they are direct bolt or an adapter plate is needed.
Thanks |
only "bolt on" "racing" type trans available for any rotary is the Mazda Motorsports trans built by PBS. I am not sure of the price or availability. Quaife makes a dog ring gear set for the turbo II trans that is available from Trust in Japan for about $6300. Jericos and other domestic transmissions can be used with an adapter and an old RX4 bellhousing(not the easiest thing to find in the US). plus shifter location will need to be revised, cooler will need to be installed, custom drive shaft built, custom clutch built. I have been thinking of this setup for my race car but there are alot of things the work out and develope, but yes it can be done.

Probably the pbs transmision is the best on the market, for the rx7, the gears can be change with out disasemblying the transmision , and there are several ratios you can get, the only factor is the money, it goes for 8grand.
also from www.housemanautosports.com you can get a close ratio racing straight gear set , installed in your transmission, this for the price of 5,500dls. Pedro. |
The PBS, Zanes, and HKS bolt right up to the engine. I'm not sure about how they fit into the different generation transmission tunnels, but the PBS requires some modification on a 1Gen. The PBS can take the least torque of the 3, but will be fine if you have an EP or GT car. Other racing transmissions like the Jerico, Lenco, T10, and T56 require an adapter. Most dogring transmissions sell for about $7K USD, while the T10 & T56 are about $2K.

do you have a web page for the zanes, lenco,T10 and T56, this last 2 aren't straight gear racing transmision?

The Lenco ST1200 is for drag racing, but can also be used on the street. It won't work well for road racing because it is not capable of compression braking. http://www.lencoracing.com/ T-56 http://www.ttcautomotive.com/products/tremec/t-56.htm http://www.fortesparts.com/tremec/ T-10 http://www.richmondgear.com/ Zanes Transmissions Horacio O Ferrea North America Division Inc 2600 NW 55th Ct Fort Lauderdale, FL (954) 733-2505 |

Not sure if this is what you're looking for...
Check out Quaife's 6 speed dog engagement gearkit, here's what they wrote to me:
---------------------------------------------- Thank you for your inquiry. The 6-speed dog engagement gearkit is for the 3rd and last generation of the RX-7. The ratios that are listed are the only ratios that have been built at this time. Alternative ratios can be made but must be ordered in quantites of at least 10 units, not real practical for the average non-trade customer. The taller 1st gear was made to enhance traction off of the line and also to make 1st gear usable on the race track or autocross course where the stock ratio 1st would not be. Again, an alternative ratio 6th gear could be made to your requirements, but the cost for a "one off" would be price prohibitive. Please bear in mind that this gearkit is for competition use only and is not suitable for the street. -------------------------------------------- And some info off their website: GEAR RATIOS 1st 2.823 2nd 1.941 3rd 1.513 4th 1.200 5th 0.958 6th 0.780 $6,495.00 |
