Pulsation Damper Leaking again in my 1987 TII
I have just spent about an hour reading the archives on the leaking PD's over the years. I had the wonderful experience of a small car fire about a year ago from this problem (fuel spraying out of the PD onto the cat converter). After replacing the main wire harness, two injectors, vacuum lines, etc. I have come to the PD and fuel regulator. I spent the night removing the intake manifold, oh what fun...
My question for the evening is: Does Mazda carry the replacement part or should I seek one online? Should I do the fuel regulator at the same time on the secondary fuel tree at the same time? It looks okay. I put a new engine and turbo in at about 130K miles while living in a warmer climate. I now have about $170K on the car. Thanks in advance for any info. Gary |

oh geez 170K miles on the car... I bought the replacement OEM PD for now...
read most of the past info and really am not convinced that any one solution is any better then the next, as long as the leaking stops... I do have to figure out where all the coolant is going, seems like it is vaporizing into thin air... and it might just be... slow leak, read alot of the posts... but that is another chapter in my story... Thanks for all the help... |
if you have 130k miles on your engine, your coolant seals might be starting to go bad. I'd take it to KDR to get tested.
Also, how did your FPD leak onto the cat? Shouldn't the FPD be under the UIM and the cat be under the transmission? |

The fuel was leaking so bad it ran out the back and ended up igniting from the outlet of the turbo (the first cat off the turbo, not the one under the car midframe).
It was the PD from mazdatrix and was the same as the OEM (came in a Mazda wrapper) so I assumed it was an OEM. I am back on the road and now getting ready to redo the air conditioning for the summer. I use this car for a daily driver. The first engine had 133K miles on it, so that leaves me with about 50K on the second engine and turbo, since I am showing 184K miles now. |
Have you looked up the Banjo bolt option? There are mixed feelings on this but look into it and see if you want to go that way.
