Pulley Hub Protrusion

I just did a front oil o-ring job on a motor following what is in the Turrentine Video and my Haynes Manual. The motor was on an engine stand sitting vertical (front up).

I have everything back together and following the directions in the Haynes manual I measured the "pulley hub protrusion" and it measures 4.x mm and the manual says 2.44 mm is the limit. And if it excedes the limit it suggest that the needle bearings are wedged by the spacer behind the e-shaft balance weight.

I only changed the front o-ring and did not mess with the oil pump chain or the balance weight so I don't think it is possible that the bearings are out of place.

Has anyone encountered this problem?
Is it possible that I just have the wrong year pulley hub (the motor is a rebuild)?

I think I will spend this afternoon tearing it apart and see what is going on in there.

I just pulled and re-installed everything on the front of the e-shaft. Nothing was out of place and I made 100% sure that nothing moved before I tightened up the main front bolt. It still measures 4 mm. O'well I am confident nothing is wrong.

Yet another wasted afternoon on a wild goose chase.

Hey, as long as you've got Turrentine's video, why not give him a call? Seems like he should be able to tell you if the tape has a mistake (or confirm your pulley hub theory) off the top of his head...

I don't think his tape has a mistake at all. He just does not mention the measurement at all. I would be more inclinded to think the Haynes manual has the wrong specs (I have seen wrong info in a Haynes manual before). Or the pulley hub I have is from a different year motor.

I am about to begin the rebuild of another motor I will measure the same thing on it before I break it open to see what an untouched motor specs out.

BTW: I have tried emailing Mr. Turrentine at the email address in the videos and have never received a reply. Where would I get his phone number?

I vaguely recall someone saying that you could call him directly to order videos. But I don't remember if that was on the Forum or the List. If I can find it, I'll send you a link...
