Premix???
Hi all,
I have seen many references here in the forums about people running pre-mix in their cars to help their engines run better. What exactly is pre-mix and how do I apply it to my 2nd gen NA and where do buy it? Is there a product like marvel mystery oil that says Premix on it ? thanx in advance!! M |
protek R is what you're looking for. its available through pettit racing. just ask for "jeff" and he'll hook you up.
protek R is a 4oz. bottle that you add to your gas tank before you fill up. it keeps your apex seals protected and helps the engine run more smoothly. really great stuff. www.pettitracing.com good luck!!! https://www.rx7club.com/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm7.gif ------------------ '94 Mazda RX-7 Touring silver/black glass moonroof HKS Intake Turbo Tuf Exhaust AWR Aluminum Radiator 17" Neeper Synchro Wheels |
for the racer on a budget, you can also use 2-stroke oil in the gas tank. i think the ratio ranges from 100:1 to 250:1.

I use a good outboard motor Oil and add 16 oz to a full tank of gas, work for me, now you don't get any extra power and maybe even loose some throughout that tank of gas but your car will run much smoother and better I do it everyother time I fill up, the times I don't use it I use chemtool B12 fuel system cleaner, this stuff works great and its like $1.99, well just my two cents, But my car have 148k and never had any internal engine problems, oh yeah and use Moblie sythetic oil you get more hp if you use it, why do you think the race car drivers use it?

My OMP has been removed and I only run premix. I am currently using Pennzoil marine with no problems.
|
Is protek R a synthetic two stroke oil?
|
I still have the OMP and add 4-8 ozs of Marvel Mystery oil which is very similar looking to many "premix oils."

i wouldn't recommend running premix in a turbo rx-7.. the oil lowers the octane rating of the fuel
|
I'm going to disagree with you on that one. Running premix does lower the octane rating, but this reduction is marginal if used correctly. The premix will give the apex seals the lubrication they need to put up with the high boost. I use 5oz per tank with OMP working. Nothing special, just regular 2stroke with gas stabilizer. Since i've started using it, my vacuum has actually gotten better at idle and everything feels a lot smoother. Just my two pennies.

I just picked up some Yamaha semi-synthetic 2-Cycle oil that guarantees not to leave deposits behind and supposedly "cleans" the inside of the engine out. Hmm, well I'm going to drop about 4 OZ in my 3/4 full gas tank and see what happens.
I'm just paranoid about the loss of octane in my TII...I cannot afford to blow a seal at this time! Anyone know how much it will drop by, or if it's a signifigant loss at all? |
Back before the hack, someone did the calculation.. it was a VERY small octane drop... 100:1 of 93 octane:premix ended up being like 92.8 octane or something.. I would like to see the math again tho.

Anyone know how many oz a gallon of gas weighs? :D

Should I be feeling like an idiot, as I sure do...

I guess the question now is, if you've disabled the omp, and you're using premix... can you now use synthetic oil in a rotary?
|
i run premix. i have heard from a few sources that pettit's protecR is just polaris synthitic 2stroke jetski oil. thats what i buy and it saves me $$$$ over pettit's.
i dont know how they chemicaly mix but if you are worried about the octane drop, maybe you can try some of these. http://www.vtr.org/maintain/gasoline-octane.html |
the logic behind pre-mix in a rotary goes something like this. gas has detergents in it. these detergents clean up inside your engine. things like oil. the oem omp is not very good and so some people like to disable it and be the omp themselfs by manualy putting the oil into the gas. or you can run premix along w/ the omp just to "help" out. i think it also helps build compression around the apex seals along w/ keeping them lubricated.
|
I've done the Pre-Mix mod to my '84 -SE. Basically I use a high quality sythetic 2-cycle engine oil in my gas tank wich leaves no deposits, yet lubricates my seals at better than my OMP ever used to. Of course I no longer need the OMP, so it's been disabled. Lastly I know run a high quality synthetic engine oil in my engine, as I no longer have to worry about it burning in my comustion chamber and leaving deposits.
Net result: 1)Better sealing and lubrication of the seals, gives me better compression and engine response. 2)Not having to worry about the OMP failing (just have to remeber to keep adding pre-mix oil to my gas when I fill up) 3)Running a good sythetic in the engine itself does a better job of lubrication and helps keep my engine alive, and I think might even be lowering my engine temps a bit. |
How do you go about disabling the OMP?
Sounds like everyone is coming up with different mix ratios. What do you follow? Directions on the bottle? On a car with the OMP functioning this could be great insurance in case it fails. Even if I don't get into the habit, I'll concider doing it even time I go on a long trip or race. |
