porting questions?

hello to everyone im fairly new to rx7's im in the process of doing a s4 turbo II swap into my base model 87. in addition i am currently rebuilding the motor and while have the motor out id like some information on porting so that i can do this since my motors already takin out. well my question is do i just lay the template on top of the plate and just use a die grinder to cut straight through? thanks to anyone that can help in advance, and yes i did search for the answer for quite some time.

the template locates usually on the motor dowels

you use some ink or a fine paint pen and mark the template surface onto your side plates
dont ruin the template by trying to grind with it fitted

you may wish to tape off areas around the port shape if you dont trust your handiwork with the die grinder

use the edge and speed of it, dont gouge the tip in and it will be easy

I do port work and I have templates. I learned from a local engine builder. I'm also around the cp area sometimes...Mr. Hanover has some great threads on nopistons...

thanks for all the advice guys but one more question what would be the best type of die grinder to use?

Whatever you're comfortable using. You need a long bit to reach down the runner and work the short radius.
