port work question

i was practicing doing a bridge port on a s5 6 port iron just to get the feel for the metal and blending everything, when i port a hole straight to what i think is a coolant passage? its right on the main port as i worked my way inward. this worries me a bit as i am about to do the same porting on a s5 4 port iron. Can anyone confirm this is normal on 6 ports? The iron that i have thats bridported obviously didnt have this problem and its a 4 port

thanks
Ben

Do you have a picture of it? The setback of the ports is the same with either non-turbo and turbo, so it should be the same style of port. The major differenece is the fact of the giant chunk of steal between the two ports on the 6 port cast iron.

When you drilled the pilot holes did you go in at an angle?? If you didn't then you probably did hit the coolant passage.

the only place in the port that you're likely to hit water is in the bowl, so i'll assume that's where you poked a hole through it. i may also go as far as to guess that it was the primaries. i've yet to handle any S5 housings, but based on the S4s and S6s that i've done, i'd say the primaries are what you MUST be careful with whether 6-port or 4-port. comparatively speaking, the secondaries give you much more room.
