oil seeping

I've got an '83 (12A). It has oil seeping between the forward rotor housing that the foremost (iron?) plate, on the driver side. (Basically where the two motor components come together.)

Without a costly rebuild (because the rest of the motor is in great shape, runs good, etc.), does anyone have any ideas on how to seal this area and at least slow the oil leak?

I used some gasket/sealant treatment to mix with the oil (has no solids, just chemicals). It's supposed to do it's job within 1000 miles. I've driven it about 300 so far, no luck yet.

The car/motor has almost 180,000 miles on it, so to risky to rebuild. I was thinking about having it welded down the entire portion of this joint. Would this work? ANy help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Do not! under any circumstances weld it! First of all, it's not exactly an easy welding location, so it would be almost as much of a pain as a rebuild. Second, if the seals are bad, it can and most likely will lead to other problems if it's not fixed.
