Oil instead of ATF?

Hey guys. I am suspecting that my FC's engine may be flooded, but before I attempt the "ATF trick", I've been gathering opinions on it's pros and cons, as well as alternatives. While browsing around, I read this quote at aaroncake.com

The original use for ATF was to clear flooding. It is entirely acceptable in a situation of severe flooding to use ATF to restore engine compression and allow the engine to be started. ATF does not usually sit in a flooded engine long enough to cause damage to the seals, as shortly after the ATF is poured into the engine it is burned off on startup. However, oil works just as well and is much more benign. The full article can be read here.

Has anyone here ever used oil instead of ATF to deflood their engine?

I used 2 stroke oil to build compression initially on my rebuild. fired right up and was burned out

Yes, oil works fine and just as well or better than ATF due to the oil being thicker because of it's higher viscosity. The ATF will help break down carbon buildup, which the oil won't. 2 stroke works just as well and some of them smell quite nice.

use vegetable oil - like the racers of yore used to run before decent oils were developed

smells gorgeous as well!
