oil control ring
ok how are the oil control rings suppose to sit in the groove? are they suppose to lay on it, be pressed inside it, etc? please help me.
|
make sure you set the springs in their appropriate grooves, then press the ring/seal into their grooves while aligning the notches.
|
inners are easy but the outers are a bitch.
lube them up real good with whatever you use--use an old ring, or a completely flat chunk of thick metal and apply even pressure. a lot of the time, i'll have a friend help hold it down while i work the other side....2 pairs of hands make the work go easier. |
btw... put the outer rings in first if you plan on using the metal piece--since the inners pop out a little bit more.
|
so i just broke 2 of my inner rings. the bastards would not go in. so i need some very very very cheap (but good) inner rings..
|
i've got some used ones in ok shape...
you want just 2 or the whole set? |
ive got some extras coming, should be here tomorrow. thanks.. but how can i get the oil control rings in there? i think they are a little larger than stock. (they are the mcmaster carr ones) could i freeze them or warm them up to fit better? dont have any vaseline so after i get some tomorrow ill try that. then if that doesnt work. i dunno.

larger than stock?
where did you get them? |
mcmaster carr
|
u got a website or something?
|
http://www.mcmaster.com
the number are in the rotary performance section under aftermarker seals. btw these are oil seals, not rings. sorry if i didnt specify that earlier. |
im gonna have to go against buying oil control o rings from mcmaster carr. ive broken 8 (something like that) inner rings trying to fit them in..
|
I just went through the same problem breaking mine. What I did was use a vise and two flat pieces of steel and sandwiched them in. be real carefull pushing them in by hand, I cut up my thumbs real bad!

what's wrong with the viton rings from atkins or rotary aviation?
