Odd Rotary Question...
 

I'm not all that familuar with the rotary engine so You guys might find this a stupid question but it has some relavance to me so... I would like to know if the rotor housings can be reversed. Meaning have the intake/exhaust on the plug side and the plugs on the intake/exhaust side. Or can we reverse the excintric shaft and swap the 2 ends of the engine around?

if u swap the engine aroundm then it would turn backwards... u would have 5 gears in reverse :p

ingoring the front and back of the engine and assumin u could theoretically turn it around..

not sure about ur first Q.. if u mean can u Flip a housing around.. then how do u plan on getting air without an intake manifold into the engine? and exhaust out...
again ignoring all the water and oil passages and everyhing else inside :P

thats what I'm asking. can it be done would the water and oil still flow properly if done? would the engine run? ofcourse I understand that i would have to make or atlest mod the intake/exhaust manifolds

FUCK NO! (I HATE hondas... well most of em) Just considering posibilities for my application <smile>

Maybe that was abit harsh sorry bout that but no no plans to put it anywhere near a honda. So far the car that I'm gonna use seems to be the frist gen mr2 (sry relized this morn that I failed to metion what my application was <smile>). So either way thanks again for the help

sounds like a mad idea :) damn mr2's are underpowered hehe, and a little lighter than rx7's :)

You might want to go over detailed plans of the rotary as im sure it probably wouldnt last as long spinning in the other direction.. surely theres a way you could mount it to work as is though :)

yea i remember seeing in the manual and hearing many ppl say not to spin the rotor in the other direction, i never heard why tho, maybe its a myth... maybe not

for a start the oil seal springs are designed to push the oil seal out with more force when turning in the correct rotation, due to them lagging in their groove if you spun the engine backwards the springs wouldnt be providing enough tension to expand the oil seals against the plates. by simply swapping the springs so the blue paint was on the front faces of the rotor would correct this though.

i can answer ur question with a question. can u put a cylinder head on backwards and the engine still run? no, they wont bolt together.

however if you did fab the head to mount backwards and fabed the block to support the crank being put in backwards then yes the engine would run. i dont expect to use factory parts now that i have had a few replys and talked to a few peeps that are knowlagable about the 13b even when i first asked i doubted that the coolant ways and oil ways would match up. I thought I might as well ask. the biggest question i have is if i did fab some rotar housings where all the holes were on the oppisite side would the engine run (please forgive my lack of knowlage earlier after learning a bit i scraped the idea of putting the engine together backwards)

you should pickup a blown motor from somewhere for a few bucks if not free, and pull it apart and see what you can see :) have a play

actualy im doing that in about 2 weeks i found a place that will give me a complete 13b (not sure if its good or not) for 100 bucks
