no spark, power to coils i need help

i have a 1987 N/A rx7 and it doesnt get spark. i tested the b/y wire going to them and it gets power. i know the g/y wire going to coil packs doesnt send the signal to fire the spark plugs and i dont know why, the wire is good. im thinking its a possible CAS problem but i know they are unlikely to fail so im kind of stuck on what to do next. any help is appreciated.

Grab your voltmeter and test out the resistance on the coils. There is a range it’s supposed to be in, I can’t think of it off the top of my head but it’s easily found. While you’re there, test the wires as well just to make sure that they are good.

i dont know why i didnt try that. trailing coil pack doesnt read anything. so that means it is bad correct? but wouldnt the car run on just the leading coils? or do the trailing coils have to work for the leading coils to work?

As far as I know, you can run on the trails, without the leading. Though that would make or catalytic converter glow cherry red because of all the unburnt fuel. Not sure you can just run on leading though...

trailing ignition fires several degrees after leading, hence the name trailing. the engine will run very poorly, sounds terrible on just trailing and wont idle at all(my experience). but it will run just fine on leading alone.

so i got new spark plug wires and a new trailing coil pack and it still doesnt start. i now know that it doesnt get the signal from the ecu to spark.

igniter maybe? You could also swap ECUs if you have a spare just to test.

i ended up just getting another ecu and it doesnt run. there are 2 annoying alarm like buzzing sounds that come on when i put it in accessory, im pretty sure one is the rev limiter alarm. could that have anything to do with the coils not firing?
