No idle till its warm, bad compression on rear rotor...
 

just bought me an fc with a bad engine (87 TII with 110k on it). basically, the front rotor has 100% and the rear has 65%. the car idles when its warmed up, sometimes, but not all the time. to get it to start you have to cut the fuel (theres a fuel cut switch in on the dash :) ) turn the key, then turn the fuel back on when the engine starts to turn on its own. I'm almost positive it needs a rebuild so any manual or info on that would be appreciated ( I wanna try doing it myself). also it get absolutely NO accelration below 3000 RPM, and actually shakes pretty violently if you try and accelerate below 2500.

My question is: is the fuel system messed up? or is it just retardedly rich because one of the rotors is half dead and the fuel that is going there isnt burning properly? It has new spark plugs, but i dunno about the injectors... Also since it runs better warm than cold, could it be a temp sensor in the engine, or on the radiator thats bad?

mostly just looking to get the car running ok until i can rebuild it. anybody know a good place to buy a rebuild kit? also considering an s5 swap, thoughts?

also the compression number is coming from the seller, who got the numbers from some mechanic whose reliability is questionable.

also the car made it all the way from culombus to chicago (400 miles in a blizzard) so its not TOTALLY broken :) (just stalls almost every time you put it in neutral. lol)

if the engine is blown, then you need to rebuild or replace it as soon as possible. sounds like it might have up-chucked a seal - in which case, the most you have are 4 functioning chambers. there is no temporary fix for that.

get a copy of the FSM and a Haynes manual if you want to do it yourself.

It's possibly blown but it's also possibly just got serious injector gremlins. A very leaky injector will cause the hard starting problems you see. As far as lack of low-end and vibration, that's a little more ominous. It could be a blown motor or it could be ignition; either will also make your hard starting worse. Get a real compression check done so you have numbers, then check your TPS, then take your injectors off and have them cleaned, then check your timing and make sure you have all 4 sparks, then check for vacuum leaks, then start scratching your head ;)

buy a jdm motor for 750$ + shipping, which is about 1000+-. (do a good enough search on jdm engine stores.)
SHould be less of a head ache. But if you want to learn than its all good.

junito1: is there a specific jdm engine site you are referring to? or just jdm sites in general. I would have to hear some good feedback on a jdm store before i drop a g note on something. I just tend to distrust anything with jdm in the name ever since it became the thing to do on ebay.

true. but i have bought an engine for my old 86 300zx turbo. ("jdm engine") that thing lasted forever... but then again those vg30et's were GANGSTA I TELL YOU. I abuse the fuck out that motor.. ANd that thing bucked!!! buck on a TII i hate to say it... ANd it was faster than USDM vg30et's
