Newbie question.....
 

Hi guys, I have a newbie question. Please don't blaze me for asking this. is their any other seal on the 13B-rew that can blow to cause a los of compression other than the apex seal? I am about to do a JDM engine swap on my 93 and I was planning on rebuilding the original engine myself. I am just learning about rotaries so I figured doing a rebuild and install myself would be a good place to start. I have been researching this but I have not found anything yet. I ask because my rear rotor has the 110-0-0 compression but the car spews out white smoke like there is no tomorrow. and Since it smells sweet I would say it is coolent. Or I have a lot more than an apex seal wrong. Any insight from the rotary guru's?????? Thanks:confused:

Any one of the seals on the rotor can break/get stuck. The seals that would cause loss of compression would be the apex seals (and corner triangle), the corner plugs, and the side-seals.

Since your car is puffing white smoke, you've got a bad coolant leak. Usually, it's either a bad water-jacket o'ring (inside the engine) or a leaky turbo.

110-0-0 compression means you've got a broken seal. Since it's on the rear, I'd bet it's an apex seal. To fix this (if it is in fact an apex seal), you'll need a new rotor, housing, and all new seals/springs for the rotor (excluding the oil control rings and potentially the side-seals depending on the damage).

In a nutshell: to guarantee a fix, rebuild the turbos, and rebuild a JDM block.

Well, the turbo rebuild took me by suprise. Is there any way of "testing" theturbos? I bought a long block so I now have two sets. I would Ideally like to gwith the better of the two units. thanks for the response
