New starter, tach and lights go haywire and won't start when cold.

Hi.

So I noticed when I would turn my car over from time to time the starter would spin freely. I just would turn the key back, and then forward again and the starter would engage and all is fine. Fast forward to last week, car just clicks when turned forward like the battery is dead when the battery is brand new.

I replace the starter. Car turns over quickly but now when at idle my tach jumps all over, my radio flickers and my blinkers go super fast. The more power draw the worst it gets. I started my car last night just as a precaution. Started right up.

This morning it just clicks like the starter is dead again. I push start it, drive it to work, park on a hill and the car will now start but turns over less briskly then before and the motor is less quick to jump to attention.. Is it the starter again? Why were all my lights and tach going crazy? Any suggestions Thank you!

Does anyone have any ideas before I replace the starter a second time? Seriously any help would be appreciated. I'm terrible with electrical problems.

I would take a guess that you have a ground issue, but trouble shooting an intermittent electrical issue without seeing the car (over the forum) is all just guesswork.

Thank you, I was thinking a ground also. So after work my car started, but turns over very slow even though all the lights are bright and the battery is newer. Even after driving it awhile shutting it off and starting it immediately it turns very slow the lights don't dim when turning over they all stay bright.

If you mentioned what SERIES of car you had then maybe you could get more direct answers to your dilemma.

Sorry man, I used to be an avid car Forum Contributer so I know how frustrating that can be. I was just getting to work and I work with kids with autism and they tend not to like to wait lol. So I typed it up fast on my phone hoping to get an idea before the day was over. It's a 1984 rx 7 GS carb'd 1.1 110k on it.
