New to rotary engines
 

My friends dad is selling his '87 RX7 along with a '86 parts car with a blown engine. It is non-turbo. I'm trying to decide weather or not to buy it. I heard from alot of people that rotary engines are very un-reliable. Over heating, fuel delivery, not a very long lasting engine design. I'm very mechanicly inclined but just don't know alot about them, i'm used to working on subarus. I'm trying to find a fun reliable car that i wont have to keep fixing.

What are the smog rules where you live? Only rotaries that pass smog are unreliable. When you strip that "stuff" they can reach another plane of performance and reliability. A good project for a subaru person is the '95 Impreza 2dr. Put an 2.5l turbo motor in it and watch it run forever.

There are no smog testing where I live.(for now) I already have my subaru project thats why I am looking for another car. I like subarus for there boxer engines so I wont to learn about rotary engines. I work on regular piston engines everyday.
