Need some advice!

Alright guys, clue you in on whats goin on and see if yall can help. I bought a '88 TII couple of years ago to fix (body and interior was in great shape), the guy said it lost compression in the rear rotor. He added an intake, exhaust, jacobs ignition and some other things, but those are what pertain to the engine. Anyways, for some unknown reason, today I just started tinkering with it (why not earlier I dont know!). Anyway I was crankin it and it was turning over but not firing. Well a friend of mine (excellent mechanic, isnt real familiar with rotaries but has some experience) checked to see if there was any spark, none. So he looked and saw how they hooked up the jacobs ignition and took it off and hooked the stock ignition wire back up. But now it only throws a spark only when I crank it. He checked all the fuses and they were good. He had to go pick up his son and he asked if he could borrow my Hayne's auto. manual, I said sure. He's gonna look it over and come back tomorrow (hopefully) and tinker with it some more. Can anyone give me some advice? Is the loss of compression the reason why it wont crank at all and only sparking once only when I crank it??

Anybody know, cause I really need to!

I'll take the guys word for it. Pull the lower plugs out. With a good charge on the battery, have someone crank the engine over for about fifteen seconds. Have your finger over the lower plug hole as he does this. If the compression does not blow your finger off your goose is cooked. Do the same with the front rotor. Do you notice a very great difference b/t the pressure blowing on the front verses the rear? Does the rear do more sucking than blowing. If it does, forget about starting the engine. Forget about the atf treatment. Forget about your savings account. Overhaul the engine, then try starting it.

LOL, I was pretty sure that I wasnt goin to have any $ in my account after this. But do you have any idea why it only sparks once when i crank it????

I checked both rotor's. The rear blows and sucks with about the same force (alot), but the front didnt seem like it sucked and it didnt blow with much force. Whats that all about?

My guess is the rear rotor has a broken apex seal and the front rotor, well it could be that it needs a shot of oil to replace the oil that has been washed off with gasoline which will probably up the compression enough for the thing to start, but only on that one rotor which means you'll be doing further damage to the housings.
Can't really say about the spark only one time. That could be a timing lite problem. You could take all the plugs out and crank with a fully charged battery(plugs out so it'll rotate faster) and watch the wire leads for spark(might put a plug in each one and ground the plug.
The guy told you the truth when he said it lost compression on the rear rotor. I'd bet money you find that spark is there, and if you put a compression gauge you'll find only about 50 or less on the front rotor and even less on the rear. Sucker ain't a gonna start. All the above is just conjecture and wild ass guessing. Shoot, your friend will probably get it fired up in nothing flat. Who knows.
Hey! I see you live in DALLAS. Is that pig for sale???????????????????

noodle 01-27-02 11:04 AM

lol that pig is MINE, ALL MINE!!!!!!! it was for sell once, but only for a couple of days, cause i soon realized i couldnt sell it, i luv it too much. It is for trade though, i dont know if anyone would want to but, i'll trade my 7 and at the most $4k for a FD in pretty much crappy condition.

NOODLE......No slight intended when I used the word PIG. Are you sure you can't get loose minded and return to those couple of days where you wanted to sell it???? humor, please. Any way, have fun with it. You live close to those Rotary Performance people and I'll bet they can offer you some good advice if you go in and talk to them. I've gotta start reading the classified ads in the Dallas Morning News more often.
