Need Help With Refilling Trans Fluid

i know where to drain the transmission fluid but i dont know how to fill it back up my car is an 89 non turbo rx-7

The way I do it is with a large syringe (about 1 inch in diameter) and a hose... suck it out of the bottle, squirt it in the hole.

I also have a Mity Vac which I use sometimes too. You can apply pressure to a container with two openings (sealed up besides two hoses)... pressure in one hose will push the fluid out the other if it's dipped into the gear oil.

I'm assuming you have a 5 speed? I have never owned an 89 non turbo, but it's probably like the other RX-7s... large bolt on left side of tranny - fill it till it runs out.

You can also download the service manuals on here. Do a search for "service manual download" or something.

ya the refill bolt is in the most difficult spot i might just take it in and have it done because i dont have the time to mess around with it. i also heard you can refill it through the shifter, but i dont know if its true.

thanks though

you cannot fill through the shifter.
get a long hose slightly smaller then the fill plug and gravity feed through the engine bay or the faster choice
get a small cheap hand pump

Aaron Cake's way seems slick and easy ... http://www.aaroncake.net/rx-7/transfluid.htm

ya that looks like a good way and yes mazda did put the fill plug in a horrible spot. they basically told everyone "Don't change your transmission fluid".

You can get a pump for $8 down at any auto parts house. Just stick it in the bottle and pump. Takes about 2 - 3 mins. Gravity feed takes forever and the syringe is really messy.

There is another pump that can be found at advanced auto parts or auto zone that looks like a grease gun. The top unscrews and it holds about half a quart of fluid. just screw the cap back on and push the rubber hose it comes with in the hold and press the plunger. It is how I did my 350z and rx7 trannys and rear diffs. waaaay easy and it didnt make too big of a mess. here is a link to what I am talking about.http://www.partsamerica.com/productd...egoryCode=3486
